Parliament approved amendments to the Electoral Code on second reading. The deputies decided that in the next elections we will be able to choose how to vote, with a machine or a ballot.
Finally, there was an unexpected twist, writes “Flagman.” The Legal Commission had rejected IMRO’s proposal: to allow citizens to decide on matters within the competence of the Grand National Assembly.
Today, however, it was approved in plenary. This happened after the reversal of GERB’s position. Boyko Borissov’s people during the debate did not explain the change in his behavior. However, according to Flagman, it was the result of an ultimatum from the IMRO. Krassimir Karakachanov’s party threatened the GERB with withdrawing its support for the draft of a new constitution and the convening of a Grand National Assembly (SJC).
Although it is against, the CEC must provide the machines by buying or renting them. The question of who will assume the presidency of the CEC remains open. After neither party proposed a successor to Stefka Stoeva, a new procedure was initiated.
Numbers against parties, coalitions, and initiative committees are kept on the ballot.
There is also a change in the electoral protocols – the government says that the simplification is done on the recommendation of the CEC, the opposition thinks that there will be more errors.
It remains to be seen if all these rules will remain a fact after the president’s veto and the reexamination of the texts of the law.
