Due to the pandemic, for the first time, the holiday September 17 will pass without a solemn session of the Sofia City Council, which usually presents the most important awards in Sofia: “honorary citizen”.

Furthermore, this year the title was awarded only to the archaeologist Prof. Dr. Margarita Deyanova-Vaklinova. The reason – that to receive the title, it is necessary for each councilor to vote in a dark room to keep it a secret.

However, from April until now, the SOC has been meeting online and remotely to comply with anti-epidemic measures. Therefore, the requirement of the secret voting procedure cannot be met, as the epidemic emergency lasted until September 30.

The first step of the procedure – a vote in the Education Committee, approved two other famous Bulgarians – the actor and director of the National Theater “Ivan Vazov” Marius Donkin and the pianist Prof. Milena Mollova. In order to be declared honorary citizens of Sofia, the SOC must convene and carry out a secret ballot procedure. When this will happen, as well as when the prizes will be awarded, depends on how long the emergency situation lasts.

Prof. Margarita Vaklinova:

The cutest

a city with feeling

for eternity

I am from Sofia, and what does it mean for a person to be from Sofia? This is the feeling of eternity, beauty and love. If you ask me what is the most beautiful job, I will say: Sofia. It brings a spirit and a special charm, because, walking, in the buildings I see not only the past, I see the history, the people. My ancestors lie in the cemetery of Sofia … This may seem too sentimental, but one cannot help but feel feelings towards Sofia. If she doesn’t feel it, he doesn’t do anything for her. We must give him love and love brings results. How many cities, in fact, did prehistoric man ever create early civilizations, such as the countryside of Sofia?

Sofia is really developing, but she is not getting old, there is no other city with that motto.

And how many interesting things come out of the center! Blik culture, life. This life can be reproduced in literature, in scientific works. For me, Sofia is something that is constantly alive, evolving. You have to love Sofia! To love means to understand and preserve.

Marius Donkin:

Let’s be ready for

we forgive each other

be together

I have lived more in Sofia than in my native Varna, where I am also an honorary citizen. I came here at the age of 17 and applied to VITIZ. Sofia allowed me to realize my dream: to become an actor. Then, in the exams, Prof. Anastas Mihailov and Prof. Boyan Danovski asked me: “Tell me, boy, what is Sofia to you?” I replied: “There are a lot of people here, trams, trams, it is very noisy.” They yell, “Well then let’s not accept you!” “Oh no no, I’ll get used to it.” This caused laughter in the jury. Sofía is the place that has shaped me as a person, as a philosophy, as manifestations both in my profession and in my spirit. Sofia is something that was further developed by what was born in Varna. Whatever words I use, they will be small to my respect and love for Sofia. I give all my strength for this city. I thank the Sofia City Council for supporting me in many endeavors. Let’s be well-intentioned, let’s unite. To be willing to forgive each other to be together: this is my greeting to all the people of Sofia today.

Prof. Milena Mollova:

My dream

it’s new

concert hall

I was not born in Sofia, but I have lived here since I was 7 years old. I love this city. I have had opportunities to be abroad, but I always like to go back to Sofia.

I teach a lot here and I have the ambition that my students are winners. And all this in Sofia, a wonderful experience.

For Sofía she would play “La Pasión”, which is very deep, energetic, warm, sincere and bright. Like our city.

Now it pains me that there are no open concert halls. Sofia has a very rich cultural life, a rich history, personalities that would be the pride of any country.

I really wanted Sofia to have a wonderful new concert hall and new grand pianos. All of us who play and work here do so for the love of Sofia, Bulgaria and the Bulgarians.

It’s easier to leave, but I love it here.

DJ party on the subway in the early afternoon.

Live music, DJ performance and movement theater are just some of the surprises of the flash mob cultural project organized by the National Center for Innovation and Digital Arts for Sofia Day.

The third metropolitan diameter train will be equipped with sound, lighting and decoration to become a stage for young artists to perform during off-peak hours in the early afternoon and after 7:30 p.m. on September 17.

SOUND UNDERGROUND will take place for the first time in Bulgaria. The action is inspired by similar events such as Tram Party, Tram Session and Subway Drum in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Berlin, New York, Warsaw and Budapest.

The aim of the initiative is to surprise and delight the citizens and guests of the city with good humor during the holidays. DJ VLD and Disco Manga will be on the train behind the counter.

The event is carried out with the assistance of the Sofia City Council, and the host and co-organizer is Metropolitan EAD.

On each tour on the route from “Krasno Selo” to “Hadji Dimitar” the music will change from trap to hip-hop, BG pop, live performances with guitar and saxophone accompaniment, street dance, pantomime, even tech house.

On the occasion of the festival, the documentary “The Mayor” will be screened on the life of Ing. Ivan Ivanov, the mayor of Sofia with the longest service in the 20th century, which will be screened at the Cinema House from 6.30 pm . Broadcast at 7.30 pm

There will be a dance show and a carnival procession in Zaimov Park starting at 6 pm

Due to this year’s pandemic, the holidays will pass without a Sofia Awards ceremony for outstanding achievements in the field of culture at the National Theater. The winners will be shown in a film that BNT1 will air at 10 pm The photos were taken at the Sofia City Art Gallery and the Sofia Library. Interestingly, for the first time, the jury award will be awarded for a social cause. We are talking about people and teams that played a very active role in the emergency situation in our country in support of the people of Sofia in difficult times.
