Businessman Abdullah Buyuk, who was handed over to the Turkish authorities four years ago, accused of being close to Fethullah Gulen’s organization, FETO, has filed a lawsuit against Bulgaria.
A few days ago, an investigation by the prestigious German magazine SPIEGEL recalled his case, claiming that Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and former Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov, in violation of international conventions, helped Turkey prosecute opponents of President Erdogan after of an attempted coup in 2016
“I have a bracelet stuck to me. And at home, another device that monitors where I walk,” Buyuk told bTV.
Four years ago, his extradition provoked a strong public response. He is now under house arrest, after 40 months in a Turkish prison. He describes himself as a businessman.
He came to Bulgaria in early 2016 to open an internet service company. Days later, he was arrested and a Bulgarian court refused to extradite him at the request of Turkey.
He claims that shortly afterwards he was contacted by people who told him that they worked for the national security of the state: “They told me that the immigration office would give me a residence and I would not have problems,” he said.
However, after the attempted coup in Turkey in July, a change occurred.
“This man I knew called me on August 10. I agreed, and when I went to the meeting place, I saw a police officer waiting for me. They detained me and took me away. I think my extradition is definitely illegal. I asked to speak to my lawyer, but they refused. My phones were confiscated. They tried to make me sign a document, in Bulgarian. I had no idea what it was about, “said Abdullah Buyuk.
He says that to this day he does not know the reason for his expulsion. The Bulgarian authorities then cited “invalid documents” as an official reason.
The businessman claims that, after being detained by the Turkish authorities, he was subjected to torture and beatings by the police.
Buyuk is accused of being a member of the Fethullah Gulen organization. He denies having financed him or had anything to do with him: “Fethullah Gulen and his organization have been declared terrorists. Our judiciary has revealed that it organized the attempted coup in 2016. I cannot sympathize with such an organization. I am not an opponent of our president and order in our country, nor was I against the government of Bulgaria. For the moment, I have taken the necessary actions in the courts and those institutions that are guilty of the improper application of the laws will be found and punished “.
The case Buyuk is talking about is against Bulgaria and has been brought before the European Court of Human Rights.
