The deputies finally approved the government’s idea of introducing mixed voting, both by machine and by the traditional ballot. The change became part of the texts adopted in the second reading of the Electoral Code, around which the coalition partners of GERB and United Patriots rallied.

There will be voting devices only in sections with more than 300 voters, and each voter has the right to choose whether to use them or cast their vote at the polls. The decision was made after intense debates, mutual accusations about who can hold fair and transparent elections: the ruling party or the opposition.
IMRO’s proposal regarding the ballot to drop the figure was also abandoned.
The opposition vigorously opposed the changes, which they described as a departure from what has been achieved so far, and demanded a totally mechanical vote as the only guarantee for the fairness of the elections.
“GERB and United Patriots do not want automatic voting,” leftist MP Filip Popov chided the ruling party. His thesis was also defended by Nadia Klisurska, according to whom the vote of the machines will prevent manipulations and help to report more accurately the electoral results. According to the BSP, mixed voting will also complicate the protocols, because the results of two different voting methods must be recorded there.
How will we vote in the next elections?
The manipulations of the vote were also discussed by the MRF, which also does not support the proposal.
“Boyko Borissov is preparing to fake the next elections,” Hamid Hamid said from the parliamentary rostrum.
The ruling party’s thesis was defended by GERB deputy Alexander Ivanov. “How was it that the BSP held fair elections on Saturday to choose its president, on paper or by machine?” He asked, referring to the direct election of a leader, with Cornelia Ninova once again at the head of the left. “When honest people hold fair elections, there is no problem. The problem is elsewhere,” replied Filip Popov.
“There is no voting machine anywhere in Europe,” said Boris Vangelov of the United Patriots.
