GERB deputy Krassimir Velchev will resign as chair of the parliamentary commission on religions and human rights. This was demanded by the MRF deputies in the plenary hall today. The occasion was the first item on the agenda of today’s meeting, which provides for a change in the composition of the committee: Lilyana Drumeva from GERB will be appointed as a member.
This is the second time in this parliament that the MRF has demanded Velchev’s resignation. The last time this happened was in 2017 on the grounds that he had made xenophobic statements.
This commission is not working, it was not carried out. Replacing, complementing a member of this commission is a transition from void to void. What does this change need? Lately we have heard calls for dialogue, including from the Prime Minister. Were these calls heard by Ms. Daritkova, who proposes these changes in the committee, because it is in her that a dialogue initiated by the president of this committee is needed? The president is completely wrong about Mr. Velchev, because he himself is as far from human rights as Ms. Daritkova from football. This commission was not carried out because during these three and a half years it has not produced any product, there is no significant contribution, two of its members left the commission, in fact the MRF does not have representatives in it, said the deputy of the Ceyhan movement Ibryamov.
The chairman of this commission allowed himself, to put it mildly, insulting qualifications directed at the Bulgarian citizens who survived the unpleasant recovery process. And any change beyond the change of chairman of this commission is insolvent. We can start with the change of president. What are we doing, Mrs. Daritkova? He asked.
Here, the committee is evaluated by people who have not participated for three years and do not participate at all in the meetings of this committee. And this is because from this rostrum I told the truth to their eyes. Everything is written, everything is in these transcripts. These people have been suing me for three years. Four cases have passed and they have been lost, now there is a new one pending before the SAC. Let’s wait for the court’s decision, because obviously we are crossing some boundaries here. Since the morning we have been trying to suggest to the judiciary, let’s see our things and questions, Velchev insisted in response.
