In 1990 it was different, there was a cause
Slavi Trifonov for me is a relative, but is not baggage and political ideas
Ivaylo Trifonov was born on June 1, 1941 in Gorni Dabnik
In 1965 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Energy and began teaching general physics classes at the University of Sofia.
In 1989 he joined the Club de Publicidad y Democracia.
Since 1990 he has been a member of the Constitutional Court of the UDF and its secretary
From 1990 to 1994 he was the head of the office of President Dr. Zhelev
In 1994-1995 he was Deputy Prime Minister
Between 1997 and 2001 he was ambassador to Yugoslavia
Since 2001 he has been the representative of the Kremikovtzi in Belgrade.
Now retired
– In early 1997, President Dr. Zhelyu Zhelev and you, as his right hand man, narrowly missed the street protests. They erupted in full force after Dr. Zhelev handed over his powers to Petar Stoyanov, who gave the BSP a mandate to form a new government. Can you make a comparison between the protests then and today, Mr. Trifonov?
– The 1997 protests were against the BSP to continue governing and create an official cabinet. The current protests call for the resignation of Boyko Borissov’s government and the formation of a provisional cabinet. The composition of the protesters is different: now there is a meeting. And then there was a very strong opposition and a strong clash between the two political forces UDF and BSP. They had almost the same opportunities. Now there is only one party with a large number of members and strong support. This is GERB.
– Who is to blame for the bloody clashes on September 2 in the “triangle of power”?
– Well, like who? The lumpens of football rioters, who were fooled by ordinary protesters people. I wonder how these cops lasted an hour. And thank goodness, otherwise it would have been a carnage!
– Many shots were shown, showing police dragging people, hitting …
– Well, they will drag them down, and they don’t want to. They drag them because they threw cobblestones and other things. The policemen held on, apparently these were their instructions. And the lumpens in propaganda are paid, it is well known.
-Call the protesters a meeting, but among them there are many young people who have studied in the West, have returned to …
– The young people are gone, they are gone. I wonder why these opinion polling agencies do not make an incision in the current state of the protesters. To see how many are young, how many are older, how many are party members, how many are not, what education they have. The protesters do not belong to a party, as was the case in previous protests. Now there is no partisan presence of serious parties.
That day I read in the newspaper that about 20-25 people from the protests, led by the “poison troika”, had gathered and made a statement that said nothing. They also listed who was present.
Sorry, but these are carriage parties. I also include
that of the Hristo Ivanov party – Sofia, but without a national electorate
On the other side are the three-letter initials of some associations, NGOs and others. What kind of representation is this?
Open the support for the so-called poisonous trio: that is the genesis of the protest. Let’s not pretend that for a few months we forgot Dubai what password they gave us. “Bulgarian summer” with all its details. The knight found helpful helpers here in front of the trio. Quickly, this password, unfortunately, was picked up by the so-called president. For me, he is not president because he has left his constitutional mission to unite the nation and seek a balance between political forces. He emerged as the leader of the protest. This is outrageous!
– How do you assess Boyko Borissov’s behavior in this situation?
– He was hesitant at first, but little by little he became well oriented in the situation and after the collective decision with the coalition partners he decided firmly: without resignation! Why quit? Who will come, tell me? WHO? Is it the BSP, which is bulk? GERB has no alternative, this is the tragedy of our situation in the coming years.
– Did Mr. Borisov make a mistake?
– I can’t say about major mistakes. The government has taken all the necessary measures to manage two crises. The virus crisis and, secondly, the economic processes. We are one of the EU countries with the least damage to the economy, although our economy is 90% connected to Western companies. However, the processes were under control. Government measures 60 to 40 and other measures controlled the situation and there were no massive bankruptcies of companies.
– Are the accusations against Borisov, GERB and the coalition government for corruption fair?
– This is a mantra. The same has been happening for 10 years. This is what is said of all governments. After this president called them whispers, I started to wonder
Not them
his people in
The presidency
mutri?
Did you give an example of corruption? Has the president given a single example so far? Did you mention a major corruption scandal? There is not. Only general stories are told.
Of course, there is corruption. It is related to public procurement, to European funds … it is clear to everyone. To say that the government is not doing anything and that the relevant state, police and judicial authorities are making no effort and that there are no exposed corruption situations is to close our eyes. But is there any country in Europe and in the world where there is no corruption? Not al.
Corruption has risen like a mantra because
Borisov
affected
interests
of the oligarchy
first of all. With this attorney general, three or four people are already detained, the trials begin … Two have escaped. Why is this hatred for Borissov from the fugitive in Dubai?
Because, first, his government took over the gambling business for breaking the law. And he can’t bear it. Second, prosecutors have already announced 19 charges that have been sent to Dubai. Unfortunately, there is no answer. Money plays in all this work. From Dubai comes the money for football fans and others. Where does the Troika get its funds from? This is the truth for me.
– However, can a situation arise in which Boyko Borissov is forced to resign?
“Off!” What situation can be created? Bloodshed? This is the task that that man marked himself, because they know that Boyko reacts very painfully to this.
But in this case, the situation is such that it will have to protect national interests, which are the interests of 90 percent of the Bulgarian people. This protest is not very widespread. It falls apart, in my opinion. It is not an alternative. What do they want besides the resignations of the government and the prosecutor? What are you offering? Nothing! They have no ideas …
– Many commentators warn that President Radev wants to take power and make a presidential republic? Is this possible in practice?
– It is not possible, because this requires a change in the constitution. You may have aspirations for this, but it can’t happen. This is a change in the form of government. Another is his great aspiration: an interim government to deal with GERB. This is your fixation. Radev has no political experience. As a friend says, I didn’t know anything else from the apartment to the hangar …
– And you, when you entered politics in 1989, you had no experience, right?
– We had no political experience, but we had a cause. What is the cause? Tell me, what is the national cause, besides overthrowing GERB? This is the truth. Our protests had a cause.
The peak was on June 7, 1990: a million people gathered for a rally at Eagle Bridge. You see what is happening in Belarus right now. More than 100,000 people every day! What is the situation here? This protest is not very widespread. And there can be none.
“Why?”
– Because there is no such social and political tension. Half a year before the ordinary elections you play this stupid arena. This is political madness, to put it bluntly.
– I recently found out that you are related to Slavi Trifonov …
“He is my fiancee”. His sister is married to my first cousin Pleven, who is a doctor. His name is Vladimir Trifonov. Petya is a very decent girl, she works in the hospital as a scanner operator. And Vlado works in two places: in a private hospital and in a state hospital …
– If Slavi Trifonov invites you to participate in his show, will you go?
“I’ll go, why not go?” But he has shown no interest for so many years. I’ve only seen it live once. At the wedding of my brother’s daughter, she was here in Sofia. I’m not interested in your work …
– Sociological research, however, shows that currently his party “There are such people” is in third place in terms of rating. Does that surprise you?
– They are mainly young for their shows and appearances with their team in stadiums. That’s where the whole thing comes from. He has no political baggage. What political ideas can there be? He submitted them to a referendum. And some of them were satisfied.
What else?
He would do
gather only one team
of prominent
Bulgarians
from abroad,
come here with skill and experience. I have not heard of a single person. However, this is a kick. I reserve that the poll will now be confirmed in the elections.
The only advantage of this will be that more young people vote and get involved in political life. If he enters parliament and opinion polls confirm that 6-7 parties will jump the barrier and enter parliament, what will happen? What coalitions will be formed? Which with which? It will be a complete tragedy. Maya Manolova to enter parliament – a whipped card. Hristo Ivanov? Well, this is a cartoon story. Apart from Sofia, this party has no influence elsewhere. Or Kopeikin? (Kostadin Kostadinov – editor’s note) Will he enter from Varna, so as not to use bad language for him?
– I see that the interview with James Pardew, former US Ambassador to Bulgaria, is on the table. Do you agree with their analysis?
“Pardew is silly!” Borissov had turned Bulgaria into a one-party state without serious political opposition and as an alternative to voters.
Well, is Boyko guilty that the BSP is not a serious opposition? The interview was taken by Alexander Andreev of Deutsche Welle radio and reprinted in Bulgaria.
– What is your prognosis to get out of this extremely severe crisis?
– We are entering an electoral campaign. The government has emphatically said that it will not succumb to pressure from the street and will not resign.
In this case, the street does not determine state policy. Politics is determined by institutions: parliament, government, president, judiciary. I believe that the ordinary elections will take place in March next year. And that’s what people say.
