A 50-year-old Bulgarian was sentenced to 8 weeks in prison in Great Britain for violating the 14-day quarantine, which is in force for all who come to the island from our country, reports dir.bg.

Ivan Dimitrov is already serving his sentence, which Judge Jane Hughes imposed after a court hearing.

Our compatriot works as a food supplier in the city of Douglas, which is the administrative center of the Isle of Man.

On September 3 he returned from Bulgaria and landed at Ronaldsway airport, but instead of following the 14-day quarantine, on September 6 he went to work at night.

It is unclear at this time how the violation was established, but the 50-year-old is facing trial, where he admits he broke the rules.

In the course of the case, it became clear that the restaurant owner initially refused to testify to the police, but subsequently helped law enforcement to locate all those with whom our compatriot had contact while delivering food and to be quarantined.

Restrictions to gather more than six people in public have been in place in the UK since yesterday, and there has been a notable spike in novel coronavirus cases in recent days, not falling below 3,000 per day.
