An Athens court today found two Bulgarian brothers guilty of the murder of Greek-Australian businessman Yannis Makris, 46, in the southern Athens suburb of Voula in 2018, the Kathimerini newspaper reported.

One of the brothers, 32, was found guilty of deliberately executing Makris and illegally possessing and using a weapon. The other brother, 36, was convicted of complicity in premeditated murder.

They both denied their involvement in the case, BTA reported.

According to security camera footage, Makris was killed shortly after leaving his home and getting into the black car parked in front of him. The assailant ran toward the vehicle and began shooting through the window.

Australian investigators have investigated the activities of the 46-year-old businessman, suspected of drug trafficking worth $ 13 million and attempted murder of a crime boss in Sydney.

Makris is believed to have owned a company providing security services in the Greek city of Kallithea and had invested heavily in nightclubs on the island of Mykonos, Kathimerini reported.
