Prof. Kantardzhiev: We will have many new infected if we do not follow the measures in the winter

If more than 10% of people do not follow the measures, when it is cold, it gets wet and we begin to gather indoors, we will have many cases of coronavirus in our country.

This was stated by the director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev. During “120 minutes” he explained that we must thank the dry climate and the sun for the fewest new infections.

He highlighted that for the first time a week ago in our country there were less than 10% positive tests, due to suspected cases and contacts of infected people.

Masks in schools

Professor Kantardjiev clarified that the Ministry of Education has given each school the opportunity to adopt different measures for the use of masks.

“There should be no panic and people should not fear that children’s psyches will be affected. Children will be without masks when they are in class. The emphasis is on ventilation, standing up. Let’s not dramatize,” he said.

The vaccine against COVID-19

Professor Kantardzhiev specified that Bulgaria, as a member of the European Union, will use a European vaccine. According to him, our country will quickly receive the doses when they go on the market.

“The vaccine may not work well enough, but it will be safe in the European market.” 100% guarantee with very rare side effects. Of that we can be sure, “he said.

According to him, the risk of rapid side effects is small, because research monitors exactly this: from the time of vaccination, 14 days later, and 1 month later, there are no early side effects.

“There are also doubts about how long the vaccine will maintain immunity, whether it will protect us from infection or make time easier,” he explained.
