The Israeli government is imposing a strict three-week national quarantine on Israel on the spread of the coronavirus in the country. The measures will take effect at 2 pm local time on Friday, the Foreign Ministry announced.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that schools will also be closed, for at least two weeks, after which the government will consider opening primary schools, depending on the number of infected.
As part of the measures, it is expected that citizens will not be able to go more than 500 meters from their homes, and restaurants and recreation areas, as well as private companies, will be completely closed. Grocery stores and pharmacies will remain open. Indoor gatherings of more than 10 people and outdoor gatherings of more than 20 are not allowed.
There is still no final decision on the closure of Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv. The decision will be made after a meeting of Transport Minister Miri Regev with a committee of experts on Monday.
