Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has accused Greece of militarizing the islands in the Mediterranean, as quoted by the TACC.

“Greece continues to militarize the islands. We are in favor of dialogue and we want to solve the problems (in the Mediterranean) by peaceful means,” the head of the Turkish Defense Ministry told Turkish television NTV.

According to Akar, the “island of Kastelorizo”, located a few kilometers from Turkey, should be demilitarized first. He announced Turkey’s readiness to host the fourth NATO talks with Greece on the situation in the Mediterranean. Akar also said that “the Greek people must not succumb to the initiatives of (French President Emmanuel) Macron, who is trying to save his position.”
At the same time, the Turkish minister said that the return of the research ship Oruch Reis to Turkish territorial waters does not mean that Ankara has “renounced its rights in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
