In the last 10 days, the London police have arrested 680 people who participated in the protests of the environmental movement “Rebellion against destruction”. More arrests are expected, the DPA reported.

Police said the reasons for the arrests were: blocking traffic, damage to property and disturbing public order.

The anti-climate change group, also known by the initials XR, has staged a series of protests in London and other cities, demanding that the government support a bill on emergency climate and environmental measures.

Activists occupied bridges and highways, blocked newspaper presses and protested at various airports and in front of the offices of fossil fuel companies.

On Tuesday, in front of senior police officers, Interior Minister Priti Patel described the activists as “criminals” using “guerrilla tactics”, as recalled by the DPA.
