Dolphin Boel, the illegitimate daughter of King Albert II of Belgium, appeared before the Court of Appeal in Brussels, hoping to receive the same rights and titles as her other three children, the BBC reported.

King Albert admitted he was the father of the 52-year-old artist only in January of this year, after rejecting his claims for more than 10 years. His mother, Baroness Sybil de Celis Lonchan, claims she had an extramarital affair with him for 18 years before he was crowned, BTA reports.

Rumors about the king’s illegitimate son first appeared in an unauthorized biography of his wife, Queen Paola, in 1999. This sparked a scandal in the royal family and constant gossip in the media.

Dolphin Boel first said that King Albert II was his father in an interview in 2005. He did not initiate a lawsuit until he abdicated and lost his immunity in 2013.

Dolphin Boel’s lawyer said he wanted the same rights as the other three children of Albert II, Philip, who is now the King of Belgium, Prince Laurent and Princess Astrid.

“Dolphin’s position is not that she wants or doesn’t want to be a princess,” said Mark Whetendale. “She doesn’t want to be a belittled girl, she wants to have all the privileges, titles and opportunities like her brothers and sister.”

Your children should also be entitled to a title if the court rules in their favor.

However, Albert II’s lawyer said that she could only win the title by royal decree and not by court order.
