Learning at home is possible if the parent agrees to provide the equipment.

Parents who have received tablets from the state to teach their children online, bet them or sell the equipment directly. This was established by the Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev.

It was with these cases that he justified the need for face-to-face training in schools, despite ongoing COVID-19 cases.

“Most parents are not involved, it was even clearer in the e-learning environment. I received videos and saw in the separate neighborhoods that the sermons were on the phones, but not on e-learning. One project provided such devices. Most of them were sold, promised or resold overnight, “he explained to the school principals.

If parents want their child to study from home after September 15, they must request it at the school. They must declare that they will ensure the child’s engagement as well as the technical prerequisites for carrying out the learning process in an electronic environment. The principals will give an opinion on the student’s participation in the previous year. However, the permission will be granted by the heads of the educational inspectorates.

“We do not want this opportunity to become an open door for abuse. There are more than 15% of students who have less than 70% average attendance. What is missing cannot be an alternative to current training,” added Valchev. There was a strong consensus that children should go in person. The minister also said 60,000 computers would be purchased for students and 20,000 for teachers.

All schools have already taken measures against the infection, Valchev is convinced. There were 330 schools without hot water, now there are 240, but the problem would also be solved in them. Each school chose its own set of measures because they are different in number of students, architectural environment and shift schedule, he explained.

“We appealed to the principals to provide hot water everywhere. There was no hot water in about 30 schools in Sofia, 10 asked for financial support, the rest promised to run on their own,” Yordanka Fandakova said.

With thermal cameras and outdoor classrooms, the new school year will begin at “St. Patriarch Evtimiy ”in Veliko Tarnovo. In the old speech therapy office there will be a so-called green room designed for students who are not well or have a fever. The room has been renovated to be child friendly.

Ionizers that clean the air of viruses and cool the climate will be installed in the classrooms of the innovative municipal school “Al. Mr. Kodzhakafaliyata.” Plovdiv principals are concerned that students are traveling at the same time by public transport and ask the municipality that operates more buses at peak hours.
