“I got to know Bulgaria through the experience of the Irish who faced corrupt deals at a resort when they bought a property a few years ago. When I joined the European Parliament, I kept finding out about the country.”

This was stated by the Irish MEP of the European United Left, Claire Daly, in a special interview for bTV in response to the question of why she used the word “bandits” in her speech.

“I was informed about a series of scandals related to Borisov and Geshev. In particular, last December, when Ivan Geshev addressed the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. I did an in-depth study, at the time of his role in Bulgarian society. “In that sense, I must say that I am convinced that the word ‘bandits’ I used is perfectly appropriate. From what I have read and seen, there is indisputable evidence that these people have violated the rule of law, “Daly explained.

He harshly criticized the EU Commissioner for Values and Transparency, Vera Yourova. This happened during a debate in the Committee on Civil Rights, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament – LIBE. Yourova presented a report on the status of the cooperation and verification mechanism for Bulgaria and Romania. She examined the rule of law in our country.

“The protests show that there is a lively debate in Bulgarian society. They also show that citizens attach great importance to an independent and efficient judiciary. Constitutional reforms need to be widely debated. It takes time to reach a broad consensus and develop verification and deterrence mechanisms, “Yourova said.

Daley, for his part, also criticized the government of our country, but also the words of the European Commissioner.

“The Apartmentgate scandal is one example. The photos of Borisov with the money and the gun, as well as all the recent events that sparked the scandals. I don’t need to tell you what they are. You live with them,” he said.

“I’m sick of the EU not taking action against them. As a member of the European Parliament, I hear about problems with the rule of law in Poland, in Hungary … Bulgaria is the poorest country in the EU. Millions of taxes are poured in in the country, but they do not reach the people, “he added.

According to her, not a word is said about this in Europe. He pointed out that either the European Commission is not sure what is happening in Bulgaria or it knows it, but because Prime Minister Borissov is connected with the EPP, Chancellor Angela Merkel and EC President Ursula von der Leyen, they are willing to close their eyes.

According to her, it is inspiring that people have been on the street for more than 60 days. Claire Daly believes that only citizens can solve the problems and they are the ones who are putting pressure on the EU.

“Little was said about Bulgaria in Europe, but now everyone is talking about you. I greet the people in the square and wish them all the best,” he added.

The Daily also responded to the words of the Bulgarian GERB MEP and EPP member Andrey Novakov, who said on the “This Morning” program: “So when we say that there were highly criticized parliamentarians – MEPs from Ireland, members of the communist group No I know when they came to Bulgaria, who expressed their concern about the protests in our country. “

On this occasion, Claire Daly explained: “I have never been a member of the Communist Party, but I am a proud supporter of the left-wing idea. Many of the oligarchs and people favored and in power are descendants of the former Communist Party of Bulgaria.”
