North Macedonia cannot simply say that “Gotse Delchev is not ours”, and if it is only harmed, this is not the friendship with Bulgaria that the two countries have been talking about for years.
These messages were relayed by Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in an interview with the public television MRT. The prime minister commented on the heightened rhetoric with Bulgaria in recent days, after Deputy Prime Minister Krassimir Karakachanov tied Bulgaria’s agreement to hold the first EU conference of talks.
The General Historical Commission established in the Neighborhood Agreement has not worked for 10 months. Some progress has been made in him, in the identity of Gotse Delchev and the way in which both sides approach the revolutionary, it remains an obstacle between Sofia and Skopje. When asked if the lack of consensus would block the talks, Karakachanov said in an interview with another Macedonian television station: “Of course.”
