Construction begins on the first municipal children’s polyclinic in Sofia. The medical center will be open 24 hours a day and will have doctors from various specialties.
When Maxim felt ill, his mother Kalina immediately went to the emergency room. “We trust Pirogov, it would be nice to have a specialized place where we can seek help,” said the woman.
Very often, Sofia’s parents are in the wrong place. This is confirmed by Dr. Zaharinka Gocheva, who cares for hundreds of young patients.
“Our patients wander at night between different hospitals, private, public and do not know where to take their child,” said the pediatrician.

For this reason, the Sofia City Council began the construction of a children’s polyclinic. The idea is not new and the goal is to provide comprehensive healthcare in one place.
“As a grandmother and mother, I know very well what it means for all parents when their child gets sick and has to go to different hospitals, look for different specialties,” said Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.
News about the future children’s polyclinic is welcome for parents and doctors alike. The procedure for selecting a project contractor has already been announced.
The building that until last year housed the National Drug Addiction Center will become a municipal polyclinic for children. A complete rebuild will be carried out and the investment cost is approximately BGN 1 million.

The medical center will have a day hospital and a laboratory, and plans to open in the second half of next year.
Dr. Gocheva’s biggest concerns are related to staff. “Not only is our specialty the most responsible, but we are also the lowest paid and that is why there are not enough staff. This will also be a problem for management, “he said.

The task will not be easy, admits the mayor of Sofia. “The biggest challenge will come when we start recruiting. I hope to attract people. We will have municipal healthcare,” explained Fandakova.
Repairs will begin in a few months. To be friendly to young patients and staff, the facade of the building will be painted by artists.
