North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for urgent efforts to rebuild thousands of houses and other buildings that were destroyed by Typhoon Maisak last week, the Associated Press reported.

At a meeting of the Korean Labor Party yesterday, Kim also said that the typhoon damage had forced the country to reconsider some unspecified projects scheduled for the end of the year, the state news agency KCTA reported.

The typhoon destroyed or flooded more than 2,000 houses and dozens of government buildings in the eastern city of Komdoc and paralyzed local transport. More than 60 kilometers of roads were flooded and 59 bridges collapsed, reports BTA.

Kim has ordered the restoration of houses, roads and railways to be completed by October 10, when the ruling party will celebrate its 75th anniversary.
