OPEN LETTER TO MR. RUMEN RADEV
“I WANT TO LIVE IN EVOLUTION, NOT REVOLUTION”
I will not forget years ago, when we were at the inauguration of the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and you and I were invited to this ceremony. You and I at the airport VIP had a human conversation about the future of Bulgaria, about respect for the institutions, about ordinary things and the fact that we are fellow citizens, we were born in the same city. I had promised myself that at no time would I allow negative reactions to you or to the presidential institution. I am a person who has always wanted to live in a country where there is public order, because these are the necessary signs for the existence of the State. That is why for almost three years I have not allowed a single comment or a single reproach to you and the presidency.
But today I am witnessing the destruction of the state with the dominance of anarchy, hatred and cruelty.
In the transition years, we have experienced five presidents; they all had their pros and cons, but until now we have not had a president whose sole purpose is to overthrow.
Each of the previous presidents has had difficult moments, they have faced resentments, protests, the government of a different party than the one that nominated or elected them, but each of them sooner or later reached the point where they put the lives of the people and peace on interest. Remember the difficult moments of Petar Mladenov with democracy, of Zhelyu Zhelev with Andrei Lukanov, of Georgi Parvanov / who I think is probably the most successful president we had in the transition / with Ivan Kostov, of Petar Stoyanov with Simeon Saxe-Coburg- Gotha by Rosen Plevneliev with Plamen Oresharski.
In this regard, I ask you where you were as president at the beginning of the pandemic. Isn’t this a real national security problem? After all, the National Security Council is one of the main tools for solving crises and reaching consensus in society.
In one way or another I have been close to all the presidents of Bulgaria, regardless of their party affiliation, I have treated with respect both their personality and the institution and, above all, the free choice of Bulgarian citizens. I also respect his 59.3 percent confidence, with which he came to power, but today I cannot respect his behavior.
I ask you, aren’t we all Bulgarian citizens, aren’t you our president?
Don’t you want us to live in evolution, not in an eternal revolution? This is achieved only with respect for the choice of citizens, regardless of whether we personally like this choice.
I was silent for a long time, Mr. Radev, waiting for you to take office. I do not know if the situation in which we find ourselves will cause his resignation or that of the government. But now that I think about it, it won’t lead to anything good. Bulgaria has gone through many vicissitudes in the last thirty years.
Please, Mr. President, take office and take the state out of this boiling cauldron!
Because this country belongs to all of us!
