Bulgaria won as a guest to Serbia with twenty-one. The Lions took the lead late in the first half with a goal from Ilian Iliev. In the second half, Kaloyan Krastev doubled the advantage for the guests. The hosts managed to score a penalty through Luka Ilic in the final minutes of the match.

The Lions showed disciplined play and deservedly earned all three points. Thus, Alexander Dimitrov’s graduates rose to third place in the group, five points from Poland and six from Russia. There are three games left for the end of qualification for the European Championship in Bulgaria.

The hosts started more aggressively and immediately put pressure on the “lions” in their own half. In the second minute Stuparevich came out in excellent shooting position into the penalty area, but the ball was a little faster and Daniel Naumov intervened decisively, killing off a corner kick. The Blues demanded a penalty for an infraction by the Bulgarian captain, but head referee Jespen Eskas categorically showed that play would resume after a corner kick.

Little by little, Bulgaria managed to avoid the initial pressure and tried to hold the ball for a longer period. In these first minutes the left flank of the Bulgarian attack was very active, where Angel Lyaskov and Zdravko Dimitrov acted.

Minutes of a solid battle in midfield followed, in which the hosts played a tougher game, with no goal positions in front of both gates. In the 17th minute, Serbia made a good run down the right, ending with a Chumic cross, but there was no teammate in the penalty area.

In the 22nd minute, Zdravko Dimitrov technically cut through two opponents, but couldn’t cross well.

Serbia responded with two dangers for Daniel Naumov. First Stuparevich fired from the goal of the area, but after a rebound the ball went to a corner kick. Immediately afterwards, Petrovich shot with his head, but did not find the target and the ball went out.

In the next few minutes, the hosts tried to push again, but it didn’t work. In the 35th minute, Kaloyan Krastev intercepted a cross from the left by Angel Lyaskov, but the striker was in an ambush.

In the last minute of the first half, Ilian Iliev stole a ball in the middle, taking advantage of an error in the defense of Serbia. The Black Sea midfielder advanced and with a measured kick in the lower right corner opened the scoring.

Bulgaria could have started the second half in an excellent way. In the 48th minute, Zdravko Dimitrov shot a direct free kick from 25 meters. Technically, the Levski wing turned the ball over the wall, after which the ball hit the crossbar, collided with the body of goalkeeper Marko Ilic, bounced off the right post and was then cleared on a corner kick.

The “Lions” began to act confidently and settled more permanently in half of the guests. In the 61st minute Birmančević fired from a distance, but the ball went past the left post.

In the 64th minute, Bulgaria doubled their lead. Stanislav Ivanov made a breakthrough down the left wing. Levski’s wing focused on the penalty area around the small penalty, where Kaloyan Krastev intercepted in the right corner.

Immediately after the goal, Serbia requested a penalty for one hand from Valentin Antov, but head referee Jespen Eskas for the second time in the match to continue the game with a corner kick. The hosts tried to pressure and the Bulgarians adopted more defensive tactics. The attempt to press the “blues” did not cause headaches for Daniel Naumov.

In the 82nd minute Maksimovic fired from the edge of the penalty area, the ball dangerously under the crossbar, but the captain of the “lions” decisively killed with one hand on a corner kick.

Three minutes later, Daniel Naumov intervened again after a shot from Gavrich in the lower right corner.

In the 85th minute of the third attempt, Serbia won a penalty. Asen Chandarov fouled Gavric in the penalty area and the Norwegian referee pointed to the white spot. Luka Ilic stood behind the ball and although Daniel Naumov “caught” the corner, the ball flew into the lower right corner.

The hosts launched attacks on the Bulgarian goal. In the first minute of stoppage time Stuparevich fired a header, but weakly and Daniel Naumov caught. Soon after, Serbia remained on the shortlist after a second yellow and red card, respectively, from Birmančević.

In the last minute of added time, Zdravko Dimitrov took aim at the crossbar after a perfectly detected ball from the air, but the result remained unchanged.
