Anton Rodnenkov and Ivan Kravtsov of the Council for the Coordination of the Opposition in Belarus, who disappeared yesterday in Minsk, have crossed the Belarusian border and are now in Ukraine. This was announced on Telegram by the state news agency BelTA, Interfax reported.
Opposition leader Maria Kolesnikova, who was with them, “tried to leave the territory of the Republic of Belarus illegally, but was detained at the border,” the agency said. BelTA refers to the Telegram channel of the Belarusian television news agency ATN. A video address of Kravtsov was posted there, recorded “a few minutes before the border was breached,” BTA reported.
An Interfax source close to the opposition believes that the Belarusian secret services most likely delivered the three to the border from a pre-trial detention center, but Kolesnikova was detained while trying to cross the border. “Neither Anton Rodnenkov, nor Ivan Kravtsov, nor Maria Kolesnikova planned to go abroad. They categorically opposed it. They found themselves at the border after being detained,” he said. According to him, they may have been forced to leave Belarus, as was another opposition activist, Olga Kovalkova.
The source admits that the secret services organized an attempt by Kolesnikova to illegally leave Belarus. “One of those provocations, and it was inside her that Kolesnikova was arrested,” she said. Currently there is no access to Kolesnikova, Kravtsov and Rodnenkov. When she tries to call Rodnenkov, she hears an automated reply in Ukrainian. When you try to call Kolesnikov, you hear an automated answer from a Russian mobile operator. Earlier today, the Belarusian State Border Committee said that the three opposition members had crossed the border, Interfax reported.
