– Cars travel 7 kilometers in craters between 2 and 3 hours to find that next to the rock phenomenon there is a parking lot with only 12 places and not a meter to return
– The situation is absurd – the Ministry of Ecology knows the problem of tourist signals, but has no authority to intervene, since the road was maintained by the municipality of Chepelare
– The Chepelare City Council cannot find a European funding program, as the road did not lead to … a settlement
How do thousands of cars fit in a 12-space car park? And how to show your child one of the most impressive natural monuments in Bulgaria – the wonderful bridges between Chepelare and Bachkovo?
Bulgarians from different parts of the country over the weekend mostly cursed themselves for taking a trip to the rock phenomenon on the Erkyupria River in the western Rhodopes at 1450 meters above sea level. At least two or three hours of cars rumbled in both directions

The deep craters were about to fly over the vast pine forests, but the most dramatic were the scandals among the drivers themselves. Those of them, who still got to the point where the natural landmark is located, were surprised to count exactly the 12 parking spaces already occupied, the two comforting tea stalls, and looked for their way back.
The others, who were climbing the road that led to the two famous arched marble bridges, did not believe they would be trapped and continued uphill. But then for hours they could not return, trapped somewhere in these 7 kilometers.
There is no sign anywhere that warns people that there is no place to park and that it is better to walk.
No law enforcement or municipal official is helping the thousands who tried and failed to reach the famous landmark over the weekend.
“The road was completely paved for the last time in 1996. Then only 12 parking lots were made, which are not enough, since the site is visited by hundreds of tourists”, agrees with the situation the mayor of Zabardo Valentin Cherpokov, who is the closest. to the wonderful bridges.
According to him, some tourists return from the middle of the road, seeing their condition, and others cannot enjoy the natural phenomenon because there is nowhere to stop.
Since the entire town depends on tourists, in early summer Cherpokov organized temporary workers to fill the holes in the asphalt with a mixture of mud, stones and

The mix became durable and they expect the trail to at least lead to rain in the fall.
According to the mayors of Zabardo and Chepelare, Valentin Cherpokov and Boran Hadjiev, the main natural phenomenon is the Ministry of Ecology, and the road is maintained by the municipality of Chepelare.
The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) explained to “24 Chasa” that they know the problem from the signals of the citizens, and the Minister of Ecology, Emil Dimitrov, will discuss it with the mayors.
However, they clarified that they do not have the authority to intervene directly, since the ministry

The MoEW is responsible for the national parks, which in our country are 3 – in Rila, Pirin and the Central Balkans.
The path to the phenomenon is maintained by the municipality of Chepelare. There is

At the beginning of the month, the government allocated BGN 369,000, but they are to strengthen a section of landslides along the route.
“As the road does not lead to a settlement, we did not find a program to finance it and for the municipality that amount is unaffordable, since it is an annual municipal budget. People rightly resent the desperate state of the road, it is dangerous. Only jeeps arrive without problems, two cars are difficult to pass, buses are very difficult to reach, ”explains the mayor of Chepelare Boran Hadjiev.
One way out of this absurd situation is to use the experience of the Bavarian authorities, who have found a solution to the huge interest in Adolf Hitler’s Berghow house in Obersalzbeg, in the Alps. A very narrow road leads to Eagle’s Nest, which is also off-limits to cars, and at the foot of Berchtesgaden National Park is a huge parking lot, generating impressive income for local authorities. From there, buses leave for Hitler’s house, which has become a lucrative local tourist attraction.
The wonderful bridges are among the most visited sites in the Rhodopes. The rock phenomenon was formed in the karst valley of the Erkyupria River, 6 km from the town of Zabardo at the foot of the Golyam Persenk peak. The bridges are the result of the erosive activity of the river flooded in the past, which has transformed the cracks in the marbles into a deep-water cave, the roof of which eventually thins in places and collapses. As a result, the two famous marble bridges remain. The large one is up to about 15 m wide, almost 100 m long. It consists of three arches, the largest of which is 45 m high and 40 m wide. The small bridge is 200 m from the big one along the river – impassable, 60 m long. , with a total height of 50 m, and only in the arch – 30 m.
