Belarusian opposition activist Maria Kolesnikova has disappeared without a trace. According to the Russian agency RIA Novosti, the police are clarifying whether it is a kidnapping, and the Coordination Council of the Democratic Movement in Belarus suggests that she was probably arrested.

Kolesnikova’s mobile phone is switched off, she has no connection to her two closest associates. The tut.by portal cites an eyewitness, according to which several men dressed in black caught Kolesnikova in the center of Minsk, put her in a minibus and took her in an unknown direction. This information has not yet been confirmed by the Coordination Council. According to Interfax, the Belarusian police deny their involvement in the case.

Kolesnikova, 38, is among the supporters of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the most famous opponent of President Alexander Lukashenko. But while Tikhanovskaya was in exile in Lithuania, Kolesnikova remained in Minsk, where she was preparing to form a new opposition party. She is among the regular participants in the protests against Lukashenko.
