Tour operators report a 70-90% decrease in foreign tourists
Hotels on the Black Sea coast will begin to close en masse next week, according to the owners’ associations of major resorts. The last large groups of Bulgarian tourists visited the resorts on weekends around 6 September.
Hoteliers and tour operators have seen a 70 to 90 percent drop in foreign tourists this summer, with no visits from Britain and Russia. Because of this, many of the hotels in Sunny Beach, Albena, and Golden Sands have not opened at all.
According to the Ministry of Tourism from June to the end of August there were 372 thousand foreign tourists on our Black Sea coast, while last year their number was 5 million.
According to the president of the Union of Owners in Sunny Beach Plamen Kopchev, more than 70% of the hotels in the complex have not opened this season, others have already closed since 1 September. The others will receive visitors from Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, Israel, Poland and some from Germany, Kopchev told TravelNews.
At the end of the month, only about 15 hotels will be welcoming guests to Golden Sands. The closure of the accommodation was due to the inclusion of Varna in the red list of Germany.
The same happened with Albena, since Dobrich was also included in this list. In the complex, the decrease for the season is approximately 50% compared to last year. The gradual closure of hotels there is also due to the fact that the tourists are mainly Bulgarians and Romanians, and they usually arrive in mid-August.
