“The conversation about a new Bulgarian Constitution is not a legal conversation, but purely political. There is no reason to pass a new Constitution. Not so much has happened in society.”
This was commented on the program “120 minutes” by Professor Daniel Valchev, dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Sofia and former Minister of Education.
“Everyone understood that it was a ritual dance, a way for the government to fulfill its mandate. We are angry with Mr. Mareshki for signing the Constitution without reading it, but we should have been angry with those who read it with more foundation,” he added Valchev.
According to him, this is a project that more than 90% is exactly the same as the current Constitution.
“The constitution makes sense to create the institutional and legal framework for us to live in a normal way. The question is not to create a wonderful legal act, but rather the conditions that will work in this act, ”commented Daniel Valchev.
“Until that day, we did not know that Mr. Borissov even knew that there was a Constitution in Bulgaria. He did not attend parliamentary scrutiny, or inaugurations, or a vote of no confidence. A total disregard for the constitutional framework. And now, suddenly, , a new Constitution. This is extremely frivolous, “he said.
According to him, what is happening shows that the government is afraid.
“When the prime minister gets scared, the only way to do it is to go through elections. For some reason he doesn’t,” Valchev added.
According to him, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will pay a very high price: political and probably another.
