The solemn ceremony on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the Union began in Plovdiv’s Saedinenie Square.
The Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva, President Rumen Radev and Vice President Iliana Yotova, MPs and other officials are present.
The protesters, who arrived from their march through the city in Saedinenie Square, greeted Mayor Zdravko Dimitrov with boos and resignations. He was the first to speak.
“Plovdiv has a leading role in realizing the idea of unification of Eastern Rumelia and the Principality of Bulgaria. And we, the people of Plovdiv, are proud of that,” said Dimitrov.
The chants of “Resignation” echo all the time as he speaks. These are protesters, some of whom came from Sofia, led by two members of the Poison Trio: Arman Babikyan and Velislav Minekov.

“135 years separate us from that September, when the Bulgarians took their destiny into their own hands,” said the head of state. According to him, in those days Bulgaria has shown the world how civilized, without violence an enlightened nation gathers and there is no force to stop it.
All the time the president was speaking, there were shouts of approval “Radev!” of the protesters, who previously marched through the city with a 50-meter flag.
Then the gum service began. The protesters whistled the wreaths of Tsveta Karayancheva, Boyko Borisov, Krassimir Karakachanov and Valeri Simeonov.
