Plovdiv businessman Rumen Ronchev, arrested yesterday for drugs, has been detained by the Turkish authorities in the Edirne region. The Turkish police found 28 kg of marijuana in a businessman’s truck loaded with goods. The price of the quantity found is almost 300,000 euros, writes trafficnews.bg.
The truck entered Bulgaria from the territory of our southern neighbor. This is not the first route Ronchev’s trucks have made to Turkey. Authorities may be checking how long the channel has been active. The truck driver was also detained. The Plovdiv resident will face a Turkish court. The charge awaiting him is drug trafficking, and his sentence could be between 10 and 15 years in prison.
Rumen Ronchev entered the public space through his relationship with the designer Meglena Kakanasheva.
In late September 2018, Kakanasheva announced that her Mercedes G350 brand had been stolen. During the investigation, forensic scientists came across quite contradictory and suspicious facts. So instead of stealing a car, it turned out they were investigating insurance fraud. Megz’s cousin Petar Lesov and the fashion princess and her new boyfriend Rumen Ronchev participated in it. All three were arrested days after the New Year. Ronchev spent months in custody and Kakanasheva and her cousin were released for 10,000 lev.
On September 15, the magistrates put an end to the stolen cube saga following an agreement with the prosecution. Rumen Ronchev received a probationary period of three years with five years. In addition to seizing the car, the chief of transportation was convicted of seizing other people’s real estate. The fashion icon Kakanasheva was sentenced to 2 years in prison with 4 years of probation. She was accused of deliberately persuading her lover, as well as her cousin, to take over the car.
