Without their megastar Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal defeated Croatia 4-1 in their first Nations League game.
Joao Cancello (42), Joao Felix (58), Diego Jota (70) and Andre Silva (90 + 5) scored for the hosts, Bruno Petkovic (90) scored for the “chess players”.
The Portuguese imposed control of the game in the first half, but Bruno Fernandes, Joao Cancello, Rafa Guerrero and Pepe failed to overcome the guest goalkeeper.
In the 41st minute, Joao Cancello surprised the Croatian guard with a shot from 20 meters in the upper right corner to 1: 0. And after the break the hosts continued attacking. In minute 58 Diego Jota received a good pass from Rafa Guerrero and easily doubled.
Joao Félix turned the score into a classic in the 70th minute after an error by goalkeeper Livakovic. In the last minute, Petkovic returned a goal, but in added time Andre Silva scored for the final 4: 1.
