Not the new elections will fix things, but intelligent and sensible people: sit at the same table and understand each other, he says about the situation in the country.
Once upon a time there was a very old grandfather. He also had a very old car, which he traveled everywhere. He lived in a picturesque Balkan town and everyone loved him. His grandfather’s name was Marin, and the people of Vrabevo – became famous for one day along with their incredible youthful spirit and thirst for life.
Hey, I grow this whole garden, my grandfather boasts. PHOTO: Rositsa Hristova
Thus should begin the story that the heirs of Marin Papurkov, 96, should tell their children. And it can be described in one word: amazing.
And I’m really in awe, because I was expecting to see a rotten old man, and in front of his house our team was greeted by a tight-figured man and, so to speak, with a teenage haircut. They usually take people who have racked up years, and some even a little annoying, let me apologize.
This wonderful grandfather Marin is not like them, he is very different. He makes his way nimbly to the table on the shady patio and organizes cups of coffee and cakes. And behind us from the garage looms his faithful “Warsaw”, which continues to drive to this day.
I feel good
between people,
but i live alone
Bai Marin begins its story. Her daughter visits her every day and her son Stefan died 2 years ago; died of a heart attack.
Today the Papurkovi family continues with 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Bai Marin says no job suits him, but has otherwise been a driver his entire life. Agriculture, construction and what has not passed through their hands. It was a big hit while you were building the house, and his garden is exemplary today. In it, he grew juicy red tomatoes, greasy peppers, and amber grapes hanging from the vines.
“It’s my hobby,” he says of the rich harvest from carefully cultivated land.
Bai Marin’s memory is as clear as his eyesight: he doesn’t wear glasses, his hearing is excellent.
He first turned the wheel in socialist times under Dobri Djurov: he was a driver in the Council of Ministers of the Department of Recreation and Culture.
Tsola drove
Dragoycheva and
another greatness
in those years. Then he started a family and returned to Vrabevo.
“We started pushing the headlands, digging with hoes, then there was no mechanization, there was nothing, but we created a cooperative farm,” he recalls.
Explain its longevity and freshness with a lot of work. Like everyone else, he has had good and bad days. However, the blackest was when her grandson died on May 1, 1991; the boy was 16 years old. It took him a long time to get over this death, the pain still fills his eyes with tears. His wife Elena could not bear the loss. She constantly mourned and cried, and died in the second month after the tragedy.
“Loneliness bothers me more, this is the worst in life, the other is overcome in some way,” said the man of all life. On the other hand, his son-in-law smiles and softly suggests that he was still excited about the “thin part” and that he was willing to do anything for a woman. Bai Marin listens to him, focuses on the jiesema, which he does very well, and proudly displays a photo of his girlfriend.
A white-haired woman looks at her. We tell him she’s very pretty and he says, “Abe, I’m not going, I’m sorry,” and he makes me laugh. He often drove it with his famous “Warsaw”.
This gives us a reason to return the conversation to driving, because you are curious about him.
like those years
still driving without
problems
And he returned to his story with enthusiasm. He was 14 when he went to Hungary as a gardener. Besides work, he also learned to drive a car. And in 1949 he took a driving test there and got a license. However, when he returned to Bulgaria, he was told that it was invalid.
During the war, he went back to driving school, but when he quit he was told that this book was not valid in civilian life either. He then appeared again before a commission and passed another test. Since 1958 he has been a licensed driver.
A few days ago he went to renew his license.
“I went through all the exams at all the doctors, I didn’t just go to the gynecologist,” jokes Bai Marin. When she went to certify the new book for 2030, she told employees: “When I come back in 10 years, I want you to be at work again and see you again.”
Some claim that he is the world’s oldest active driver. Is that so? I don’t know, but it is certainly the most colorful.
“How old are you to drive, Mr. Marine?”
“Look now, while you think and feel you can, let him drive his car.” If you feel that your eyes and hands are not listening, you must surrender on your own.
– How you feel?
– I’m perfect, I’m finehe replied arrogantly.
He has 47 years and 7 months of work experience, for which he receives a pension of BGN 340. He has lived and maintained Warsaw for so long, with which they have been inseparable since January 19, 1968. He clearly remembers that he bought it from Mototechnika in Lovech and was sold by Vasil Dochev. He lovingly explains that the car has Opel parts, a pure German car, but assembled in Poland.
“She didn’t seriously cheat on me. Hey on
I decorated it with
the flags of
Bulgaria and the
the European Union
The Bulgarian on the left, close to the heart, and the European on the right, we are on the right of Europe ”, laughs Bai Marin.
His father, who was a pastor, once wisely told him: “Son, you will try not to get money from a bank and not get into politics.”
He kept his pact all his life, but he still has an opinion on the current situation in the country. He cannot understand why there are protests, since there is a parliament, a president and a prime minister. According to him, they should meet, clarify, call the protesters and see what they want.
“People suffer from this, Bulgaria suffers. We are a poor country and other countries are destroying us. Who will take these loans where we take them? For me, this is worrying, that’s how I understand it,” he philosophizes.
He gave an example of how they fought in parliament: “It is as if in a shelter the dogs barked at each other, because in one they poured a better pot, and in the other they did not. That’s the way it is with dogs, but I can’t understand why people bark. “
And not new elections and a new parliament would fix things, but smart and prudent people would sit at a table and figure out how to help the poor.
And since he lived before September 9, 1944 and during socialism, he believes that
the biggest mistake
of the AP and
It’s Todor Zhivkov
the creation of
the camps
Who was hampered by short skirts and narrow legs: “Now we have stripped and dismantled Bulgaria!”
And it was not the lines that determined his life: he felt better in his childhood when he was grazing sheep and did not understand anything.
“I have traveled to many countries and I know that there is no equal in beauty in our country. But unfortunately, we don’t have the discipline of the Germans ”, he lamented.
Imperceptibly, the story reaches Delyan Peevski. Thus we understand that his grandfather Kancho and Bai Marin’s mother are two brothers, supposedly first cousins. The grandfather Kancho in question died at the age of 102.
We ask him at this age if he dreams of something.
“Look now,
I dreamed one
time – not now
dreaming. I have
girlfriend and
that is enough for me “,
laughs the rolling old man, who seems to be in his 70s and threatens to turn 100. He is sure of that because his body serves faithfully, without pain, without medication and his heart is not burdened by bad thoughts or envy.
He dismisses us with a liter of plum and orders us to visit him again. She then takes her great-grandson in her arms and seems to endure the future she believes in with her indomitable spirit. Then he waved to our car for a long time.
