Catering establishments charge 9% VAT on food delivery orders, instead of the 20% paid by law, as NRA inspections have shown in recent weeks. Violators will be fined by the tax agency and assigned inspections and audits to calculate the correct amount of VAT. Some of the sites will be sealed for up to a month, the revenue department added.
NRA inspectors found a chain of establishments at the beginning of the week, where each meal ordered for the home is taxed at 9%. The Agency’s hotline: 0700 18700 also receives other complaints about restaurants and fast food restaurants, which allow deviations from the legal VAT regime.
The inspections of the “Fiscal Control” inspectors continue both in situ in the establishments and through online orders.
From the beginning of July 2020, a reduced value-added tax rate of 9% applies to books, restaurants and catering services, baby food and diapers. The reduced rate for restaurant and catering services is valid only for the food offered and the respective services for consumption on the spot, recalled by the ANR. The Tax Agency has launched an information campaign to explain the new VAT regime among restaurants and establishments that offer homemade food.
At the same time, the National Revenue Agency reports good fiscal discipline on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, where the summer control campaign for compliance with tax and social security legislation continues. Its main objective is to promote voluntary compliance with the rules and equal conditions.
The tax authorities remind that anyone who has downloaded the Tax Agency’s mobile application, which allows scanning the QR code of each receipt and checking if it is genuine on the NRA’s servers, can be included in the monitoring of the income statement. .
