This was announced by Senior Commissioner Georgi Hadjiev

“The Bulgarian police today faced a criminal contingent and ultras brought from the province.” This was stated by the director of the SDVR, Senior Commissioner Georgi Hadjiev, in a briefing on Wednesday afternoon.

“The police have once again maintained civil peace in Sofia, despite attempts by some protesters to come into direct conflict with the police and cause chaos,” said Commissioner Hadjiev. “A direct confrontation with the police was sought,” he stressed.

The actions of the metropolitan police were entirely within its legal powers. “They were even passive at times. But at the cost of hurting themselves, the police were able to maintain civil peace,” said Commissioner Hadjiev.

At least 27 employees were injured and more than 100 received treatment at the scene.

“People with masks and gas masks used hot spray against the police. They were blowing up stones, cobblestones and metal rods,” explained Senior Commissioner Hadjiev.

More than 35 people were arrested and transferred to the Sofia police stations. “Most of them belong to a political party for which the prosecution has requested their removal. They have a criminal record,” Hadjiev said, referring to the Vazrazhdane National Park.

“Today, the police sided with the constitutional order. With their actions, the Bulgarian police have shown that they are on the side of order, ”said the director of the Interior Ministry and called on citizens not to succumb to provocations.
