Due to the increasing number of new infections, Hungary has closed its borders to foreigners. Austria is also responding to the growing number of infections: Chancellor Kurz has announced that he is considering tightening measures. There are new measures for students in Russia, according to Deutsche Welle.
Since September 1, Hungary has closed its borders to foreign tourists, including those from EU countries. Only Hungarian citizens will have the right to enter the country and foreigners, only if there is a very good reason. According to government spokesman Gergely Gulyas, most of the new infections in Hungary were imported from abroad. According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 6,100 cases of infection have been registered in the country, 615 people have died from Covid-19.
“To avoid a new blockade”
In view of the growing number of new infections in Austria, Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is considering a further tightening of measures against the coronavirus. “The government will make a new assessment of the situation,” Kurz told ORF television. He added that he was skeptical about the lax measures in place for larger events. Some of these new freedoms may be revised. According to the Austrian Chancellor, new schools may be closed, but only as a last resort.
Kurz called on the Austrians to keep their distance, reduce their social contacts and wear protective masks. “The greater the personal contribution of each individual, the better we will go through the fall-winter season,” he said, adding that the main objective is to avoid a new lockdown. Currently, the situation in Austria is under control, but the number of new infections is growing, mainly due to tourists returning from abroad.
New measures also in Russia
After a hiatus of more than 5 months, today schools in Russia are reopening. For nearly 17 million students, the new school year begins. Many of them were the last in the classrooms at the end of March, when due to the pandemic, all schools in the country switched to distance education.
