Solskjaer has already set his second transfer goal

After enlisting the services of Donnie van de Beek from Ajax, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has appointed RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano to reinforce Manchester United’s defensive backbone.

Dutchman Van de Beek is expected to be officially announced as the first addition this summer, at a cost of around 40 million euros.

Hiring the 23-year-old midfielder could also mean United will not be able to take on their big transfer target: Borussia Dortmund’s Jaden Sancho. But he will try for another Bundesliga player.

Upamecano, 21, is seen as a longtime partner of Captain Harry Maguire in the center of defense. The central defender recently signed a new contract with Leipzig, which includes a release clause of 43 million euros.

United also hopes to shed some of its defenders through this transfer window, with those up for sale including Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
