Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia will join Schengen as soon as possible

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš declared at this year’s Strategic Forum in Bled that it is necessary to admit Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia into the Schengen area as soon as possible. This was reported by the Slovenian portal “Democracy”, cited by BGNES.

The Czech Prime Minister said this, defending his position that security is paramount at this time.

Europe after Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic are the topics of this year’s Bled Strategic Forum (BSF) main panel, which is being held today in Slovenia and will last only one day due to the current pandemic.

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa addressed those present at the forum and said, among other things, that next year would be a Brexit period and that a balance of power was needed.


“We will also face the economic consequences of the coronavirus, but fortunately, on a good basis, thanks to the agreement adopted by the European Council in July,” he said.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said EU countries were not prepared for the pandemic and called for more solidarity.

According to Democracy, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has demanded more respect from the EU.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovi emphasized that due to the pandemic, the EU presidency has been practically operational since March 10 and that there are no face-to-face meetings with other leaders.

Before the official discussion, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the EU was in trouble for not defending its position in the world economy.

“Now it is difficult for EU citizens to understand that we are no longer leaders.” Now it is the United States and China, “Orban said.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Marowiecki referred to the “Three Seas” initiative, noting that this does not mean they are against other countries, “Democracy” reports.

The meeting was also attended by IMF President Kristalina Georgieva and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.

The strategic forum in Bled this year, due to the pandemic, is held under special conditions and has an abbreviated program. It takes place in a combination of physical presence of the participants and videoconferences.
