The MRF will not sign the introduction of a new constitution. Nor will it vote to convene a Grand National Assembly.

This was stated by the leader of the MRF, Mustafa Karadayi, today at a press conference at the party headquarters.

Previously, the Central Operations Office met in an extraordinary session to decide whether to support the convening of a Grand National Assembly to amend the constitution.

“Our motives are that, guided by the basic principles of the statute and in the name of the MRF’s mission, our party will not support GERB’s project for a new constitution. In our opinion, the draft prepared is yet another blow to democracy and statehood. The draft of a new constitution denies the universal values: freedom, peace, humanism, equality, justice and tolerance. The new constitution denies the rights of the individual, his dignity and security to be elevated to the highest principle. It definitely does not answer to the requested restart request ”, he was categorical.

“The Constitution as a basic law directly affects the rights and freedoms of all Bulgarian citizens. That is why all political forces must approach with the necessary responsibility. The new constitution must be adopted as a new social contract after serious debates at a political moment calm, normal and creative. The opinion of civil society, academia and experts must be heard, with good sense, responsibility and dignity. A new constitution or changes in the current one must eliminate deficiencies and aim to achieve the rule of law and strengthen democratic values, which will bring the Bulgarian constitutional model closer to European and international models, “added Karaday.
