Hamilton with victory in the Belgian Grand Prix, Ferrari without points

Lewis Hamilton achieved a victory in the Belgian Grand Prix. Valteri Botas was second in 8,442 seconds, and last place on the podium went to Max Verstappen, 15,455 seconds behind Hamilton. Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon finished fourth and fifth.

The air temperature during the race was 18 degrees, and that of the track, 31. The humidity was 57%.

Even before the start, Carlos Sainz suffered damage to the exhaust of his McLaren on his way to the starting grid. This meant that he would not participate in today’s Belgian Grand Prix.

Shortly before the start of the race, everyone on the track observed a minute’s silence in memory of the French F2 driver who died last season, Antoine Hubert.

Everyone in the top 10 started on soft tires, except the Mercedes and Max Verstappen drivers, who had a medium. Behind them were also all the medium tires, except Charles Löckler and Pierre Gasley, who had both soft and hard tires.

Lewis Hamilton made a good start and maintained the leadership position. Behind him Boots also retained second place, with Ricciardo attacking and overtaking Verstappen on the approach to the Les Combs corner, but the Dutch driver regained his position after that. Charles Löckler also got off to a great start, moving up to eighth after the end of the first round, but was shortly afterwards overtaken by Pierre Gasley. The first lap of the race went smoothly, without incident between the drivers.

Five laps after the start, Hamilton led Boots by 1.2 seconds. Following them was Verstappen, followed by Ricciardo and Ocon. Behind them, Charles Löckler fell to 10th place.

Shortly after, the Ferrari driver was overtaken by Lando Norris and Danil Kwiat and sank to 12th. At the helm, Hamilton continued to lead, followed by Boots for a second and a half. In third place was Verstappen, who was about 5 1/2 seconds behind Lewis. The fastest round was for Hamilton: 1: 49.470.

Ten laps after the start, Verstappen complained over the radio that there was no longer any traction on the tires. At the end of the column, Antonio Giovinazzi turned the Les Fagnes corner and hit Wilmass driver George Russell. This caused a safety car to hit the track. Fortunately, both competitors were unharmed after the accident.

The leading drivers took advantage of this and pitted for a new set of hard tires, as Alex Albon managed to pass Esteban Ocon.

The race was restarted on lap 15. Lewis remained Lewis Hamilton, who posted a new faster round of 1: 48.325. Behind him were Boots and Verstappen.

On the next lap, Kimi Raikkonen edged out Sebastian Vettel at the end of the Kemel straight, and Boots posted the fastest lap: 1: 48.156.

After 22 laps since the start of the Belgian Grand Prix, Hamilton was 3 seconds ahead of Boots and third was Verstappen 1.8 seconds behind Walter. Ricciardo was fourth, followed by Pierre Gasley, Alex Albon and Esteban Ocon, who battled for fifth place. Back then, the Ferrari drivers battled for 12th place. One lap later, the Thai Red Bull driver passed Gasley and took fifth place.

Meanwhile, Lewis posted a new faster round of 1: 47.851. and increased the difference with his teammate to 4 seconds. Charles Löckler was pitted for a new set of medium tires and dropped to last. Alfa Romeo driver Kimi Raikkonen announced on the radio that he had water in his right shoe.

With 32 laps to go in the Belgian Grand Prix, the lead ranking remained unchanged. The highest top speed was for Alfa Tauri driver Danil Kvyat.

Seven laps before the end, Hamilton made a mistake in the third sector of the track and went straight through the last chicane. At the same time, Sergio Pérez overtook Quiat and took ninth place, but three laps later he was overtaken by Pierre Gasley.

One lap later, six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton complained of a tire problem. Behind him, Albon, Okon and Norris fought an incredible battle for fifth place.

At the end of the race, Okon overtook Albon on the last lap and finished fifth. The Red Bull driver was sixth, and the top 10 was completed by Lando Norris, Pierre Gasley, Lance Stroll and Sergio Pérez.

That was Lewis Hamilton’s 89th win. The fastest lap was that of Daniel Ricciardo. The Renault driver managed to register a time of 1: 47.483. Pierre Gasley was chosen by the spectators as the driver of the day.
