Emil Todorov is the king of mullets in Shabla: know 77 secrets
when hunting them
The only writer on the subject of the sea mullet, Emil Todorov de Shabla, gave valuable advice especially for the “24 hours” fishing page.
The former military man is very popular for his book, in which he describes 77 secrets of mullet fishing. It says that it is currently also sold in Romania.
“There are three places I go for the mullet: this is the Mishhenite area north of the military unit in Shabla. My other favorite destination is the end of the beach at Krapets in the direction of Shabla. The third place is the beach of Durankulak.
I am looking for a bottom with small rocks and sand. The mullet fish spin there. I use 3 rods, in which the main fiber and the reins of the three hooks with plugs is 0.30 fluorocarbon.
I cast a rod 7-8 meters from the shore and sometimes catch more fish there. The other is about 20 meters, and the third I throw at least 40 meters. Once I know where the fish is going, I throw all the rods in that direction. It has happened to me to go into the water up to the waist with a jig on my shoulder and worms in the floats and look very deep for the mullets ”, says expert Emil Todorov.
Sometimes he fills a net with bread, fish offal, and slightly smelly sawdust, sets a stone, and flings the bait with a bottle around the place. The next day he goes, throws the bottle and chops the fish.
Of course, the main bait is still the Varna sea worm.
“I always go fishing at dawn. I stay until 8.30 and then I definitely leave. I only eat fresh fish, the tail should move in the pan, so to speak. I don’t understand people who fill the ovens and then freeze them. In my opinion, fish should be allowed to live and reproduce ”, adds Emil.
Other experienced fishermen are trying to catch turbot near Krapets, but the fish is still inland. It is not even around the reefs that the big ducks hide.
“We always put a rig with a thick bundle and two hooks at the end of the boat. We string horse mackerel or pieces of zargan and let it stir while we catch ducks. If we’re lucky, we’ll catch a turbot, but so far we haven’t. We are waiting for it after October 1 ”, they say.
At the beginning of October, the turbot appears on the sandy bottoms of the coast and attacks passing fish such as horse mackerel, zargan and grouse. However, the water should start to drop from 20 degrees down. According to one of the practical theories, the turbot is at the bottom and you have to target its habitat so that it can be fooled by the bait. Others believe that the turrets move in passages in large waves and therefore catch one after another.
Pike in a jump in the air over Kamchia
Small pike attack baby mullets at the mouth of the Kamchia River. Obviously they are the object of their older brothers, because they jump in the air with some fish in their mouth.
“Up to the Poda bridge, they have caught large rams weighing 600 grams each. And here everything has escaped the pike, “complained Chavdar Draganov, who practiced sport catching and releasing the small pike.
Somadjii is also looking for catfish on the opposite virgin side of the river this summer. It is full of branches and holes in which catfish hide. Small fish and bunches of black marsh worms are dumped to the bottom and used as bait.
The drought turned Luda Kamchia’s ponds into goals
The famous ponds in the villages of Esen and Beronovo, through which Luda Kamchia passes and which give a strong barbel and mullet, have returned due to the drought.
In this situation, the fish hides in dungeons to survive and doesn’t touch the bait at all, local fishermen complain.
The nearby Kamchia Dam is banned and private guards are chasing even near the town of Manolich, a favorite spot for fishermen.
Only the Blue Pool in Medven is filled with water in the area, but many vacationers have turned it into a pool and the local fishing rod, Dimitar Todorov, returns several times unable to catch a trout.
