ITF M25, Poznan (Poland), 1/2 final
Dimitar Kuzmanov – Yele Sales 5-7, 6-3, 6-4
Dimitar Kuzmanov reached the final of the ITF tournament in Poznan after a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Dutch Yele Sels. The Bulgarian had to take a turn, but nevertheless showed not only an indomitable spirit, but also a dynamic and diverse game, which earned him a place in the trophy match.
The first set was very interesting and disputed, as both opponents spared no effort on the court. Kuzmanov made several unprovoked errors, but Sels, in turn, struggled with his first serve. With a score of 3-3, the Dutchman made a breakthrough and took a 5-3 lead, and at this stage the set looked decided.
However, Kuzmanov suddenly picked up the pace significantly and definitely caught his opponent off guard. The Bulgarian returned the advance and tied the score, but in the next two games Sales showed more precision in key moments and ultimately won the set 7-5. This was the first set lost for Kuzmanov since the beginning of the tournament.
The second set started with a game for Kuzmanov, but Sels quickly found his rhythm and made a breakthrough, giving him a 2-1 lead. From that point on, however, the Bulgarian was the master of the court, giving his opponent just one game until the end of the set and deservedly winning 6-3.
The Bulgarian continued his hot streak in the final set, managing to lead 2-0. This time, however, it was the Dutchman’s turn to catch up with two game handicaps and the score was tied. The two exchanged another game, after which the Bulgarian made a major breakthrough and led 5-3. Sales narrowed the gap, and in the 10th game, Kuzmanov applied a lot of pressure.
However, our second racket didn’t buckle and closed the set at 6-4, thus earning a spot in the trophy match. There, Kuzmanov will face the host’s representative Casper Zuck, who today defeated another Dutchman in three sets: Tim van Riethoven.
