Bulgaria receives 2.3 million units of coronavirus vaccine – Society

Bulgaria will receive 2.3 million vaccines against COVID-19. This became clear after the European Commission signed a contract for the production of 300 million doses of the drug, which is being tested by the University of Oxford.

Starting this year, an application for certification of the vaccine can be submitted. This follows from a statement to the BBC from the head of the Oxford group working on the vaccine, Andrew Pollard, reports BTV.

Clinical trials in the United Kingdom, Brazil and the Republic of South Africa involved 20,000 people. Among the participants is Maria Spirova, a Bulgarian who lives in Oxford.

“What happened to me was the most common side effect: I maintained a temperature of 38 degrees for about 2 days, after which, with a knife, I crossed it and felt good, and did not experience any other side effects. I wait for the second dose in September, “he said.

The participants in the tests do not know each other, and participation takes place after a serious medical evaluation. The data from the first and second phase of the tests are encouraging and show that patients have developed a “healthy” immune response.

Teams are currently conducting the third phase of testing, where more than 50 people in various parts of the world are expected to receive the vaccine to demonstrate its safety on a large scale, as well as the ability not only to elicit an immune response but also also to protect against the coronavirus.
