I am impressed by the simplified organization and coordination between all the structures on the territory of Stara Zagora: RHI, hospitals, police, everyone involved in the fight against coronavirus. This was stated to the media by the Minister of Health, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, during his visit to Stara Zagora, the Ministry of Health announced.

Prof. Angelov pointed out that since the beginning of the epidemic in the district, 422 positive cases have been identified, of which 165 are active and 18 are dead. To date, 17 are hospitalized patients, all of them housed at the “Prof. Dr. Stoyan Kirkovich” University Hospital. The district hospital is ready to open 143 additional beds, and with more pressure on the system and another 40 beds.

The Minister of Health explained that in addition to UMHAT “Prof. Dr. Stoyan Kirkovich” there are two other medical institutions in the district, which are designated to treat COVID-19 patients – MHAT Kazanlak and MHAT Trakia. With an increased load on the system, an opportunity has been created for other medical establishments located on the territory of the district to accept patients with coronavirus infection, it became clear from the words of Professor Angelov.

Minister Angelov visits Stara Zagora

“During my meeting with the regional crisis headquarters we spoke with representatives of the University of Thrace about the opening of the new academic year and the training of medical students. My opinion is that it should start in person, because medicine is not studied electronically. In order to create a trained doctor, she must work directly with her patients, communicate with them and be able to perform all the necessary manipulations, which cannot happen remotely, ”said the Minister of Health.

Regarding the vaccine against coronavirus infection, the Minister of Health insisted that it will not be mandatory and will be free for Bulgarian citizens who wish to obtain it. He noted that at this stage Bulgaria has ordered more than 2 million vaccines for vulnerable groups: people over 65, people with chronic diseases and frontline employees. “No vaccine is being tested in Bulgaria, no vaccine will be tested on anyone, which is talked about in the public space. The BDA has not received documents for clinical trials of the vaccine in our country,” added the professor. Angelov.
