Yesterday a grant scheme for micro and small businesses was launched. So far, 16,500 projects worth BGN 136 million have been submitted under the program. Applications continue to be accepted. We will keep the scheme open as long as funds are available. This is the way to bring money to those who need it most. This was said at a briefing in the Council of Ministers by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev, reported novini.bg.

The UMIS system resists great interest. The peak was yesterday between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., Donchev added.

We will propose that the resource for grants for micro and small businesses be increased by at least BGN 20 million, said Economy Minister Emil Karanikolov, and recalled that the program currently has a budget of BGN 173 million. There is great interest in the procedure, and this is the reason for the decision to increase its resources, he said.

He recalled that after coordination with Brussels, there are more than BGN 600 million in the operational program. Karanikolov expressed hope that in mid-June he will launch a procedure for larger companies. He recalled that the main objective of the operational programs is to create products and services with high added value. There are also companies that have not closed and need innovation, so we will maintain this budget, added the minister.

We will preserve the opportunity for the Bulgarian economy to develop as it did before the epidemic, he said.

The banks have submitted 1,282 requests to the Bulgarian Development Bank to guarantee loans, said the Minister for the Economy.

A product developed on the website of the Bulgarian Export Insurance Agency has already been published, which will guarantee reinsurance, with the aim of not generating debt between companies in the sectors of Bulgaria, said Emil Karanikolov.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy also commented on state loans in the amount of up to BGN 4,500 for unpaid people on leave affected by the coronavirus crisis. Tomislav Donchev noted that only now are they entering the market. According to him, 12 commercial banks are expected to finally participate in his concession.

Emil Karanikolov said the state is interested in the move to succeed and that as many people as possible benefit from it.
