Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev has established an expert council, which includes representatives of the scientific community with experience in the field of law and law enforcement, the prosecutor’s office said. Two of the names make a special impression: one is former chief prosecutor Nikola Filchev and the other is Professor Vasil Mrachkov, the last prosecutor of the “Zhivkov” era. Due to Mrachkov, the honorary leader of the MRF, Ahmed Dogan, resigned from the Stara Planina Order after learning that Mrachkov, the chief prosecutor at the time of the so-called revival process.

The state attorney’s announcement states that the council is established to exercise the constitutional powers of the attorney general to obtain methodological guidance on the activities of all prosecutors. It is not yet known exactly what the powers of the council will be, how often, on what issues and how it will meet.

Ivan Geshev announced the idea of ​​establishing such an advisory council immediately after he assumed the post of attorney general in mid-December last year. He then answered a journalist’s question about the opinion of the prosecutor’s office about the president’s ongoing debate on changes to the Constitution, explaining that a detailed analysis would be conducted in the prosecutor’s office and that experts invited to a council would be heard. special advisor.

The expert council includes 17 people, including former prosecutors and deputy chiefs, law professors, and investigators:
