China is considering imposing sanctions on four US congressmen and two organizations over a Senate bill to restrict Beijing against its actions, which the United States says are the cause of the spread of the coronavirus. This was announced by the Global Times, citing sources.

According to the publication, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmidt, who first filed a lawsuit against Chinese authorities, accusing them of hiding information about the spread of the new coronavirus, may also be on the sanctions list, reports BGNES.

China intends not only to respond symbolically, but also to take countermeasures that will be “painful” for the United States, the newspaper said.

Previously, United States Republican Senator Lindsay Graham introduced a bill in the United States Senate that would impose sanctions on China if Beijing “does not cooperate and provides a full report on the events that led to the outbreak” of the new type of coronavirus.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijiang called Graham’s bill immoral. According to him, this initiative “absolutely ignores the facts.” Lijiang emphasized that since the outbreak of the disease caused by the new type of coronavirus, China has been working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO).
