Germany must help its neighbors in the European Union to regain their economies after the end of the coronavirus crisis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in a meeting with parliamentarians from her political bloc.
Merkel also said that for Germany, as an exporting country, it is crucial that its EU partners develop, referring to talks on an EU reconstruction program, the scope and financing of which have yet to be defined.

“Nobody cares that Germany is strong,” said the chancellor.
At the meeting, he agreed with the head of the HDZ / HSS parliamentary group, Ralph Brinkhaus, that Germany would have to transfer significantly more funds to the EU and that the Bundestag would be involved in deciding on this aid.
Merkel’s third coronavirus test was negative
Previously, Brinkhaus said that Berlin wants to help its EU partners, but needs to know what these funds will be used for. The European Commission is expected to present a revised draft budget next week.
Unique in Germany: a quick way to detect coronavirus
Germany intends to open its borders to citizens of neighboring countries in June.
Starting today, the German-Austrian border will be open to residents of the border region, as well as to those working across the border, after an agreement is reached to open several smaller checkpoints.
In Europe: where the measures fall from today
Merkel said she did not want border controls and the restrictive regime to last indefinitely. According to her, the government will consider additional measures to open the borders.
Borders will be gradually opened and border checks will be carried out randomly. Starting June 15, the borders are expected to be fully open.
