European countries will be advises opening borders to countries with a similar image of spread of coronavirus. This plan for The revival of the tourism sector is being discussed in Brussels.

The European Commission is expected to propose on Wednesday. a three-stage plan to open the borders to tourists, according to a draft of the document reviewed by the Euractiv website.

Before the Commission was not very prone to “tourist corridors”, where member states have reached bilateral agreements on opening borders to tourists, but now appear ready to accept such arrangements in practice.

The EU includes some countries most affected by the pandemic, mainly Spain and Italy, but also others like Greece and the Czech Republic.

Now in Brussels they are working hard to save the tourism sector in Europe, which represents 10% of the EU’s GDP and more in Italy, Spain, Croatia and Greece.

Last week, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced his intention to open borders to visitors from safe countries like Germany and the Czech Republic, which is part of the plan to protect the tourism industry of the Alpine country.

Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia will open the borders from May 15, creating a Baltic “travel balloon”.

Senior EU officials acknowledge that cannot prevent governments from concluding such bilateral or tripartite agreements, but they declare themselves against a selective attitude.

France and the UK are already working on Coordination of a corridor for free trips between the two countries during the summer.

The European Commission also asked member states to prepare plans in case of a second wave of spread of the coronavirus.
