The European Commission (EC) is considering initiating infringement proceedings against Germany over the decision of the Constitutional Court to oppose the purchase of bonds by the ECB, according to a statement from its president, Ursula von der Leyen, BNR reported.
It stresses that the Commission adheres to three fundamental principles: that EU monetary policy is a matter under its exclusive competence, that Community law prevails over national law and that the judgments of the Court of Justice are binding on all national courts.
“The last word of European law is issued by the Luxembourg Court of Justice. Nowhere else,” said von der Leyen, adding that the Commission had taken note of its clear decision of May 8, in which the magistrates said that only they could decide actions of the European institutions.
