The patient, who tested positive for coronavirus from the village of Zaraevo in Popovo and was admitted to the Targovishte Regional Hospital, is in a moderately damaged condition. This was announced by the manager of the medical institution, Dr. Ivan Svetulkov, at the emergency meeting of the regional crisis staff to combat the coronavirus called today by the regional governor Mitko Staykov. The reason for the meeting was the first recorded case of COVID-19 infection in the district.

According to Dr. Svetulkov, initial respiratory failure is now observed. As of this morning, the 53-year-old man no longer has a fever. The patient breathes alone and receives additional oxygen through a mask.

Quarantined are the staff who worked in the period from receiving the positive result until now. All of them and their contact persons must be sampled.

To date, seven more patients are being treated in the ward. They will be attended by different personnel. An organization for the complete isolation of the patient with COVID-19 and its staff has been established.

MHAT-Targovishte has sufficient quantities of personal protective equipment. We work in accordance with all safety requirements and recommendations, said chief physician Dr. Svetulkov.

Today, samples were taken for the PCR test from contact persons in the family of the infected patient. The results will be ready early next week. Until then, they will be quarantined at home. They were also quickly tested for coronaviruses, with negative results.

Measures have also been taken against the workplace of the infected man’s wife, a sewing company in Popovo, where she worked with around 30 people.

The mayor of the Popovo municipality, the mayor of the village of Zaraevo and the director of the school in the village were notified of the actions taken.
