More than 200 people protested on a Rome campus blocked by police in the city on Friday noon with cries of “resign” and accusations of discrimination due to checkpoints. There are two reasons for this: the first is a clip on Facebook from the police that does not let the liquor store into Rome. The second is a report of domestic violence by a woman in the neighborhood.

Upon learning of something unknown, the Roma gathered near a large supermarket at the beginning of the Faculty. The crowd complained that there were no coronavirus patients among them, but they discriminated because they were gypsies. They also complained that the store was not well stocked and others were not allowed to go. Some shouted that they lost their jobs due to the measures.

It all started around noon when the woman pointed to her drunk man, who once again approached her. A police patrol arrived outside the victim’s home. The uniforms detained the abuser and took him to the Third Police Station. However, the neighbors did not understand why the police arrived. They thought he was being arrested for a coronavirus.

The rumor instantly swept through the neighborhood, and for a minute more than 200 people, including children and women, but also fairly young men, piled up at one of the checkpoints at the beginning of the neighborhood.

Additionally, a man was filming uniforms chasing his quarterbacks who wanted to buy alcohol at the store behind the checkpoint. He published it on the social network calling other Roma to come to Sofia to protest the violence.

With shouts of resignation, they threatened the compound. They all wore masks.

The gendarmerie and all the leadership of the Home Office were in place, as well as two of the Krasna Polyana district vice mayors, Nikolay Vushovski and Stoyan Tanev.

“The rumors are creeping in here fast and people are furious,” Wushowski explained.

He and his colleague went to check the nearby hypermarket and made sure it was well stocked.

The mediators, some of whom threatened the media to create ethnic conflict in the neighborhood, also needed intervention.

The police are reviewing the case. According to the director of the Interior Ministry, if there is evidence of a crime, the instigators will also be asked for criminal responsibility. There were no physical confrontations with the protesters with the police. Many of the patients with coronavirus in Sofia are residents of the Faculty. This required additional measures there and 23 checkpoints were placed at the exits.
