Israel has isolated key antibodies against the new coronavirus, Defense Minister Naftali Bennett said, quoted by Reuters.

He called the “significant advance” made on the road to possible discovery of a cure for the disease caused by the COVID-19 virus.

The “monoclonal neutralizing antibody” was isolated from the Israeli Institute for Biological Research. “It can neutralize (the coronavirus) in the bodies of the infected,” Bennett said after a visit to Israel’s main biological research laboratory yesterday.

Meanwhile, Israel has further eased measures against the spread of the new coronavirus, AFP reported.

In a televised speech, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that all restrictions on the movement of Israelis would be lifted immediately.

Until now, Israeli citizens have not been allowed to walk more than 100 meters from their home, except to go to work, to a supermarket, pharmacy or hospital, AFP recalls.

Family visits to grandparents, which were banned in early March, will again be allowed.

Shopping centers and open-air markets will reopen on Thursday.

Israel was one of the first countries to close its borders and imposed strict restrictions on the movement of its citizens to stop the spread of the coronavirus. So far, there are 16,246 confirmed cases of the virus in the country and 235 deaths from Kovid-19, Reuters recalls.

AFP notes that in recent days there has been a significant reduction in new infections in Israel.

“We have achieved great success,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu. He noted that Israel is one of the developed countries with the fewest deaths from coronavirus per capita.
