On May 1, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake in Plovdiv worried people. It was followed by numerous aftershocks.

“Such earthquakes generally only cause fear, but fortunately they do not pose a danger to the population. Thank God I still believe that God is Bulgarian,” said seismologist Prof. Boyko Rangelov.

According to him, after tremors of similar magnitude followed a series of aftershocks, which were observed, but are fading. He added that these types of earthquakes are considered weak tremors in the science of seismology.

“There are two trends in the world. An American looking to look for heralds and the more they are, the more reliable the forecast is. On the other side is the Chinese approach. The Chinese have launched a specialized satellite based on just 2 or 3 heralds.” and try to make a forecast of strong destructive earthquakes, not for all earthquakes, “Prof. Rangelov explained to Bulgaria ON AIR about the earthquake forecast.

He added that the strangest behavior in our country is the Shabla-Kaliakra earthquake, because it had the ability to remain silent for a long time and suddenly produce strong tremors.
